What actually moves the price
Four things, in roughly this order: whether there is room to fell, whether a machine can reach the trunk, how far the wood has to be carried, and what is underneath. A fir with clear ground around it is an afternoon. The same fir between a house and a service line is a day, two climbers and a rigging plan.
On the site visit we check those four factors against the tree in front of us. Two trees of identical height on the same street can be quoted a thousand dollars apart because one of them has a gate a chipper fits through.
What is quoted separately
Stump grinding is its own line and often its own visit — a different machine, and access judged on its own terms. An arborist report is separate again, and so is anything a Development Permit Area requires before work starts.
Haulage is the one people forget. Chips and rounds leaving the property costs more than rounds stacked at the back of the lot, and saying which up front changes the figure. That choice goes on the written quote either way.
Why storm work costs more
A tree already down is under load, and that load has to be released in order before anything is cut free. It takes more time, more people and more care than a standing removal, so storm clearing is priced above one — commonly 50 to 100 percent above, and more after a bad blow.
